Our Story

Mordi’s Sandwich Shop is a small, husband-and-wife-owned business built in Jersey City from the ground up. It is owned and operated by Mordi, a chef who trained at the French Culinary Institute in New York City and built his experience working in restaurants across Manhattan, including Luggo Caffè, Inside Park, Empellón, and Eataly.

In 2014, Mordi brought his passion for fresh, made-to-order food to Jersey City with a food truck serving the Exchange Place lunch crowd, local markets, and community events. The truck quickly became known for big, satisfying sandwiches and honest, quality cooking, and operated until 2020.

In 2018, Mordi opened the first brick-and-mortar location in the Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City, turning that original food truck following into a neighborhood staple known for fresh sandwiches, comfort food, and daily specials.

As demand grew, Mordi’s expanded in 2024 with a second location in Journal Square, continuing the same focus: big, fresh, made-to-order food served with consistency, care, and a strong connection to the local community.

Today, Mordi’s remains rooted in the same mission it started with — simple, satisfying food made fresh, served fast, and built for the people of Jersey City.
