Our Story
Mordi’s Schnitzel Truck opened in April 2014 out of the love of two things—Israeli street food and Jersey City. Chef/Owner Mordechai Chichportiche (Mordi) was born and raised in Israel and loves sharing his favorite food from childhood—SCHNITZEL!—with the place he now calls home.
Mordi graduated from The French Culinary Institute (currently The International Culinary Center) and worked as a line-cook in both New York City and Tel Aviv. His last position held in a restaurant was Sous Chef at Il Pesce in Eataly’s marketplace. Eventually Mordi’s entrepreneurial spirit was in need of a challenge and opening a food truck was the best way to start. Four years later Mordi’s Sandwich Shop was opened in the Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City. With a larger menu and extended hours, it has been a wonderful addition to the food truck.
Both the food truck and the shop have a simple but important goal: to provide excellent customer service and quality homemade food from the freshest ingredients possible. We’re so grateful to Jersey City for providing us with this wonderful opportunity, to our customers who keep us going every day, and to our terrific team whose hard work makes this small business story possible!
